Pickens County Jail Roster

The Pickens County Jail Roster in South Carolina is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the county jail. PickensCourt.us provides access to public information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official Pickens County website, by visiting the detention facility in person, or by calling the sheriff's office. The roster is maintained by the Pickens County Sheriff's Office; it is regularly updated and posted online as a transparency tool that allows citizens to check the custody status of a specific individual, view the charges filed, and find out the booking date.

Search Current Inmates in Pickens Jail

To find information about a person in custody, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to PickensCourt.us — the site allows you to search for publicly available court records and bookings.
  2. Enter the person's full legal name (last name is required). If the booking number is known, use it for more accurate results.
  3. Review the results. Each record typically includes the name, date of birth, charges, booking date, and bail amount.

If the roster appears as a list without a search field, use your browser's search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) and enter the last name.

By Phone

Call the Pickens County Detention Center on the main line. The operator can confirm if a specific person is in custody if you provide the full name and date of birth. For non-emergency inquiries, use the sheriff's office dispatch line.

In-Person Visit

Visit the lobby of the detention facility. The visitor information window operates during business hours. Bring identification with you.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — their records are protected by state law.

To check court cases at the state level, you can also use the South Carolina Judicial Department's public index, which covers records from all 46 counties.

Find Pickens Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the jail. This process records several key elements:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of custody
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency (sheriff's office, city police, South Carolina Highway Patrol, etc.)
  • Personal details: name, date of birth, gender, race

Most of this information becomes available through the online roster shortly after the booking process is completed. However, there may be a few hours between the actual arrest and the record appearing on the site — this depends on staff workload and the time of day.

If you need a copy of the booking record, rather than just viewing it on the screen, contact the Pickens County Clerk of Court's records request department. Requests can be made in person at the courthouse located at 214 E Main Street. For state-level criminal history, there is the CATCH system by SLED — it allows you to view and print criminal history records by name.

Individuals sentenced to serve time in a state correctional facility will no longer appear in the county roster. Their information should be sought through the South Carolina Department of Corrections inmate search.

Search the Pickens Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two primary search methods.

By Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin script. Adding the first name narrows the results if the last name is common — for example, "Smith" may yield dozens of matches, whereas "Smith, James" will filter the list much better. A few tips:

  • Check spelling: "Johnston" and "Johnson" are different entries.
  • Try a shortened version of the name if the full one yields no results (e.g., "Rob" instead of "Robert").
  • Hyphens and apostrophes in last names are sometimes processed incorrectly — enter the last name without them if the search returns nothing.

By Booking Number

The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during processing. It provides an exact result without variations. This number is usually communicated to relatives during the first call from the facility.

What to Do If the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure the person is held in the Pickens County Jail, not in a municipal facility or a neighboring county jail.
  2. Wait a few hours — the record may not yet appear in the system after a recent arrest.
  3. Call the detention facility and confirm the status directly.
  4. If the person has been released or transferred, the record disappears from the current roster.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Pickens

The Pickens County Jail roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly in real-time. In practice, the delay between actual booking and the record appearing online can range from one to several hours.

It is important to understand the key limitations of this tool:

  • Current status only. The roster displays individuals who are in custody at the time of the last update. It is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Disappearance after release. Once a person is released on bail, by court order, or after serving their term — their record is removed from the public list.
  • Data entry delays. During high workload periods (weekends, holidays), updates may appear more slowly.
  • Transfers. If an inmate is transferred to a state facility, the record disappears from the county roster. Further searches should be conducted through the SC Department of Corrections database or the Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services search.

For historical booking records that no longer appear online, submit a written request to the sheriff's office or use the FOIA procedure — the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act provides the right to access public law enforcement documents. The county's registered sex offender registry is available separately through the Pickens Sheriff's Office Public Sex Offender Registry.
